In the international cement trade, maritime transport is a fundamental, critical component. On occasions, the transport is more costly than the merchandise itself, which makes it extremely important when it comes to taking decisions. We make it easy. Black Rock has excellent relations with shipping lines, owners and brokers, which enables us to get very competitive freights. Most of our transactions are done on a CIF basis to your port.
Cement in containersWe ship cement in containers or break-bulk depending on the quantity requirement. Containers are very popular in Africa because of ease in transit and the port facilities.
Containerized – 560 Bags of 50 kg are loaded directly in a 20’ Container optimizing its weight up to 28 MT net. The minimum order quantity for cement in containers is 10 containers (280MT). For white cement the minimum order quantity is 1 container load, though 2 container load is recommended to get optimum freight. |
Cement break-bulkFor larger lots, break bulk shipping of cement is recommended. The normal lot size recommended for break bulk is 12,500 tons.
This can be done in three ways: 1. without slings – where 50kg bags are loaded directly into the hatches of the vessel. 2. In Slings – where 50 kg bags are packing inside a Sling bag of 1MT or 2MT and then loaded inside the hatches 3. In Jumbo bags, where cement is packed in 1.5MT / 2 MT jumbo bags. |
ClinkerClinker is shipped loose in hatches of bulk carriers. They are unloaded using grabs into standing trucks via a unloading hopper.
The recommended lot size for clinker transportation to East Africa is 45,000 tons. We also do GGBS in bulk carriers with pneumatic unloading. |
Construction SteelConstruction steel like steel bars, beams, angles, pipes etc are shipped in 20 feet containers. Some sizes would need 40 foot containers.
Minimum order quantity for steel is two 20 feet container or one 40 feet container. |
